FAQ

Here are some of the more common questions I get.

  • What is Playbook Gamer all about?

Playbook Gamer is a site and YouTube channel dedicated to football games and palybooks. I’ve been a football fan all of my life and have played video games ever since I could remember. Throw in my passion for playbooks and you have Playbook Gamer.

PG has been on a long journey. I started out giving advice in forums about my favorite game: NCAA Football 06. After awhile I thought it best to create a site where I can organize my thoughts about 06, this NCAA 06 Revival was born. Later on I wanted to help gamers with other football games so I created Playbook Gamer. I created my YouTube channel along the way and I haven’t looked back since. The site is a great place to store all the info I have on games while the channel helps visualize it all.

  • Why is NCAA Football 06 your favorite game?

NCAA Football 06 is my favorite because it gives me the best gameplay experience with the least amount of issues that bother me. No game is perfect, but 06 hits the sweet spot for me in terms of fun, realism, and replay value. Games before 06 were missing features I like while the ones after 06 contained features that made them worse which affected various aspects of gameplay.

I can talk about this topic forever, but I went into more detail HERE where I compared every NCAA Football game for the Playstation 2.

  • What about other football games?

I’m all for you playing whatever football game makes you happy. I just prefer to spend most of my time playing NCAA Football 06 and other games from Playstation 2 era. I believe those games are the pinnacle of football gaming. However, this doesn’t mean you should do the same thing. We all have our preferences. Now, I hope my advice can steer you in a good direction (play NCAA Football 06), but some fun can be gained from many of these games.

  • Do you play NFL games?

Occasionally. The one thing that motivates me to play any football game is the playbook side of things. I can spend hours in Practice Mode tinkering with playbooks, concepts, and plays. However, I enjoy college football games more than NFL games because I enjoy Dynasty Mode more than Franchise Mode. I have more fun recruiting than drafting and trading players. I like the schematic variety in NCAA games too, but that’s just me.

  • Do you play other sports games?

Oh yeah, when I have the time. I’ve been playing basketball games for decades. College Hoops 2K8 is my favorite basketball game. I played a decent amount baseball, hockey, and wrestling games back in the day. Even though newer sports games have struggled lately for various reasons, I’m always on the lookout for good titles to sink my teeth into.

  • What about non-sports games?

You bet! I’ve sunk more time into various RPGs, sim & management games, and AAA titles than I care to count. I’ve been playing video games for over 30 years and sports gaming is just a fraction of that.

  • Your videos look incredible! How can I make my Playstation 2 games look like that?

I play PS2 and other older games with an emulator on my PC which enhances everything. You can read my full guide on how to get into this HERE.

For PS2 console gamers, I recommend you use component cables with an HDMI converter.

  • Which sports teams do you follow?

    College: Tennessee Volunteers

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals & Tennessee Titans

    NBA: Boston Celtics

    MLB: Atlanta Braves
