8 Great Formations in NCAA Football 06

Below are older videos where I broke down several formations in NCAA Football 06.

Most gamers like to stick to just a few formations when calling plays, some only use one formation.

Some of these formations are very popular, others are ones you may have never used before. You would be surprised what hidden games can be found in these formations.

I will put these in order from oldest to the latest video made. I cover every play in each formation, both good and bad.

Ace 4WR Trips

This formation has some really good stuff in it if you are a fan of being under center with 4 wide receivers on the field. You will be vulnerable to heavy pressure which is why I tend to use quick dropback plays from it more than anything else.

Full House Normal

The Full House formation is an odd duck. It’s the only formation with your top tight end in the back field. This along with the HB and FB form a diamond shape in the backfield. It has some interesting plays if you want to throw an odd look at your opponent.

Shotgun Y-Trips

This formation is one of my favorites, especially from a passing standpoint. The run plays are solid enough but like with any trips-based formation, you can overload a defense with this look. It also has some of the best vertical passing plays in the game.

Ace Empty

This formation is another odd duck in the fact that teams in real life hardly use it anymore. This is understandable since you are under center with only your offensive line to protect your QB. However, this formation has a great collection of pass plays to move down the field…as long as you have time to throw.

Shotgun Normal

This one of the most popular formations in 06 and in real life. Most teams use shotgun formations and 11 personnel as a base (1 RB, 1 TE). This formation has some pass plays that are truly unique, one of only a handful of formations that are like this. This formation is a great place to start if you’re unsure where to begin with a shotgun-oriented offense.

Power I Normal

The Power I formation is as old school as it gets. However, it can be as effective as any other formation in the right hands. As you can imagine, most of the fomation is filled with run plays, but it has some pass plays to keep a defense honest too. This is good alternative to the Goal Line formation.

I-Form Tight

Here is another bigger formation with a lot of bite. I’ve always liked the balanced look of it with a tight on each side with the basic “I” look in the backfield. It has most of the standard run concepts with some pass plays to round out the formation.

Ace Tight

This is one formation I haven’t used much in my dynasties on the channel, but it has some great plays in it at least. A hidden feature with this formation is the two-tight end sub package in case you need to get some tight ends on the field with a compressed set.

Conclusion

These formations are worth trying out to see if they can fit in your offfense. Everyone of them has something to offer, even if you only use a few plays from each.

Or you can go crazy and use all of them at once to create a full offense!
